Look Up High – Move On. Happy 2017.

img_39702016 didn’t begin well for me.

I was disappointed, drained and confused. In fact, in the midst of the NYE party with friends, I burst into tears.

I felt overwhelmed and hopeless. Despite the new dream job I had I was very stressed with it, I felt like I was losing my purpose and felt like I won’t be able to get out of where I was. I was stuck.

So here we go a year later…

img_4041

I feel empowered. I feel joyful. The sense of purpose of my passions is back and I evolved.

I made so many necessary steps to move on, with small steps I committed in 2016 to heal myself. I knew that state of mind on beginning of 2016 was temporary – my heart kept telling me – there MUST be a way to get out of it. Even though my mind felt stuck – my heart kept whispering that I would be able to get out of that dark place.

img_4015

And there is and was – I don’t own it all to myself, but also to many wonderful new friends I made, beautiful adventures, travels and celebrated success.

The major ones were undeniably my One Day video – my most beloved, personal project – to achieve so much success over the world on the fashion film festivals. These were the seeds that I planted with so much sweat and pain a year before – only to see them grow in 2016.

This was such an inspiring process that helped me to heal and grow – and move on.

Even if you feel stuck – keep working, keep believing. Rest, observe, analyse and step back if you need to. That’s what I did – I needed to reevaluate my dreams and goals in order to make necessary and beautiful new changes happen.

I have so many ideas to share and plans already to be done in 2017, but that energy I thought that would have never been back is with me – and I am so thankful for the beautiful and inspiring lesson I received in 2016, that also marked my dreams coming true.

One of my goals is to finally be more open and inspire – and be more committed to my art. I have so much to tell and if you are willing to read and listen – I am here.

Have an inspiring and full of blessings 2017 – full of positive signs from here and above.

London Graphic Centre – How to draw clean

A couple of weeks ago London Graphic Centre organised a Students Day, greeting warmly new arts students with events, workshops and special discounts in their flagship store.
Although I have graduated a while ago I still remember the days of when I was a London art student and since then I have been a regular customer and fan of the store and all the great supplies that London Graphic Centre has to offer. And I was more than happy to receive a couple of goodies that arrived in my bag!

I am most popular for live illustration and quick drawings, so I like to work quite clean.

I always start a sketch with a pencil and that must basic tool for any designer wasn’t missing in the bag! I did a quick outline of proportions and composition with the pencil.

I am a fan of markers of all sorts and I was happy to find my all time favourite Staedler Pigment Liner which I always use for my sessions. It is perfect for details of the face and gestural accents.

Finally I usually finish my illustration with ink and brushes to add the contrast and bold lines, however I found a great alternative for this with this pocket size, cute thick marker. I was surprised how great it can replace the bold edges if you run out of ink!

If you are a student make sure you get a 15% off discount card from London Graphic Centre. As a student it saved a lot of my budget and at the same time I did not need to compromise on the quality of the artwork I was creating. The best deal is that it works with the current instore promotions and you can especially get amazing deals on sketchbooks – you can never have enough of them!

When it comes to style I am quite obsessed with the trend of slip dress. Now that we have colder weather it’s even more fun to layer it over other pieces. The romantic 70’s embroidered shirt with a collar is toning down the dress that could also be worn as an evening piece. I finished it all with jeans which almost look like jeggins and I thought it’s cool to see how each individual strong pieces from different styles come together and can keep you a bit warmer and more daring!

White Mist – Collab with Luxemme

Officially we may have a calendar spring, but you can hardly see it in London. Rain, cold temperature, grey sky… not much has changed since February!

However, it is definitely a lot of brightness coming up in my heart due to exciting projects I will be releasing in May.

A lot has been going on in my career – juggling it with my full time role as graphic designer at Lulu Guinness – but I am definitely positive to say, that things are moving and also had a couple of exciting comissions, which I will soon write about.

I feel like received a touch of light wings when I found out, that my unreleased video ‘One Day’ (premiere 6th May) has been nominated at Bokeh Fashion Film Festival by Mercedes Benz in Capetown. This is my absolute debut as a musical art director and I am thrilled to see, that dreams started to see reality…

But! I will be more writing about it in next posts – as there is a lot to share!

In the meantime I am glowing in a beautiful dress from Luxemme, the beatiful sheer draping in white made me feel like a dove. The dress is of an excellent quality and I definitely think it is a strong piece that could make a good entrance at a cocktail party (If only it became a bit warmer!). I matched the matte white with holographic accents to give the look a classy, shiny statement.

All photos were taken by my favorite street style photographer Zac Mahrouche, who I am extremely proud of for recently getting accepted at London College of Fashion. Well done!

Live Illustration at TOD’S

I can’t believe it’s going to be a year since I have been comissioned for my very first first fashion illustration event. My journey started off in a true grand way – in the heart of Old Bond street, famous for being an epicenter of luxury boutiques in London. Tod’s happened to be my very first live illustration client and I was drawing guests over their Valentine’s breakfast. I remember I was very excited but at the same time a bit nervous about the outcome… How on Earth will I be able to draw a portrait under 10 minutes? Will my quirky fashion portraits appeal to high-end luxury clientele and bloggers?

And to my surprise they did – beyond my wildest expectations! The guests were lining up for hours to get their portrait done and it brought so much excitement to the event! I had to stay an extra hour over my session. It was a massive success and eye opener to my new passion…

What I absolutely love about live illustration is what standard illustration is missing – is connection. The bond I create with person I draw, the pace, the emotional scan. Even if the illustration is fun and of course quite abstract – I get so much satisfaction when the portrayed person sees themselves in it.

My first live fashion illustration session at Tod’s was life changing and carved a new path and passion in my artistic career, which I am definitely pursuing.

I already have some exciting live illustration sessions booked in upcoming months!

Don’t miss out my live illustration session this weekend at We Built This City – loveliest art gallery and stylish souvenir store in heart of Carnaby street, that also was awarded as the best independent business in Soho of 2015!

I have been invited to bring some lovely rosy vibes in style of Valentines. I will be drawing between 1:30-4:30 PM 13th-14th February – the entrance is free and only £10 per portrait. Bring your second half / friend / lover – as the aim is to do double portraits with a person who stole your heart 🙂

Seeds of 2015

This post will be slightly different – and it will be the first step to the new direction of my blog, where I will start sharing thoughts and experience. This is an urge driven by my soul – I feel that by being honest about my past and journey I could help and uplift. I hope that my reflection can be universal, but I have a special intention to inspire creatives and artists – those, who often need the support the most on the path, that often is full of road blocks. I am still on mine – and I constantly follow my heart – and by surrounding myself with like-minded creative tribe I receive energy that helps me keep moving forward as well.

So let’s get to the major theme of this post…

Highlights of 2015 for Adriana Deco

  • winning a competition and creating illustrations for H&M Oxford Circus
  • I became a head graphic designer at Lulu Guinness
  • recording my EP ‘Destiny’, completing Urban Development course
  • filming two professional music videos with top notch film makers
  • discovering new passion – live fashion illustration – leading to top clients like Tod’s, Moet Hennessy, H&M (Vogue Fashion Night Out), Mahiki Club
  • starting this blog and eventful London Fashion Weeks
  • I was hesitant about X Factor, but I decided to include it as a bullet point – it’s a twisted and unfair story, but making it to the Wembley was still an achievement – and greater achievement was overcoming the pain and getting back on track
  • meeting a lot of supportive people, who shared their talent, wisdom or advice with me.

It is quite a long list and for each experience I am extremely grateful; however, my most beautiful realization is that my music videos – projects that come truly from my soul – are the ones I am mostly proud of. Even though I haven’t received any applause, exposure or financial rewards (yet! 😉  – these are the projects that make me feel most connected to my soul purpose.

_MG_0242

I can’t wait until official campaign of my Destiny project starts – it is more than an EP – it is a personal story, where my music and visuals finally create together a vision. To bring it all together to this point the roller coaster of emotions definitely paid off.

Wishing you all a prosperous, inspiring, fulfilling year – full of positivity and strength to create your DESTINY in 2016!

Girl from Paddington

I have been a Londoner for last 3 years but only recently moved to the West side of London. Once the sun started to come out it encouraged me to explore more of my neighbourhood. I must admit I am falling in love with Notting Hill area every day – after living 3 years in Highbury & Islington.

This is my very first look that I combined with the elegant white architecture of Paddington streets. I am wearing black and white to bring out the boldness of the architecture.

All the photographers were taken by a rising street style photography talent Zac Mahrouch – watch out for him, he is a real pleasure to work with and has a great eye and skills for very young age! http://www.zacmahrouchephoto.co.uk/
